Refurbishment of the changing rooms are also on the list of jobs along with a few other minor works. If you can possibly lend a hand for a few hours it would be appreciated. Bring spades or shovels and wellies if you have them.

As the afternoon drew on, the wind began to pick up. As Gordon went out, those on the shore noted something amiss with his sail. As he powered up round the corner it became obvious what his problem was. He’d brought a Tushingham mast!

With the mast in two he began to drift out to sea. Lucky he was able to get to one of the boats in the harbour. As he tried to de-rig, he and the rescue boat began drifting down the harbour.

With the kit loaded, the outboard was started up. Only for the shear pin to fail. So the brave rescue crew got out the oars and rowed our Gordon back to dry land.

There haven’t been many photos taken as it’s been so good we’ve all been out on the water.

This year we will once again be holding weekly CLUB NIGHTS throughout the summer. They will be held every Thursday commencing 17th May through until 6th September.
That’s 17 nights, with a different committee member hosting each night.

For those who aren’t familiar with Vass, you can read this location report or check out the photos from the last club trip.

First off, we have applied for a Sport England small grant to allow us to expand the hire scheme and to allow us to offer training for beginners. We won’t know whether we have been successful until late May, and we’ll be sure to let all club members know as soon as we do.

The type of boat we will be purchasing

In preparation for that we have agreed to extend the existing concrete hard standing by a small amount so that we can install another 20foot container, around the back of the toilet block. This will be used for storing a new rescue boat of the solid plastic type that will be much less vulnerable to damage than the inflatable and will be much easier to launch.

We will also, as soon as we get permission from our landlords, be installing a slipway to allow us to get it into the water easily. This will be cut into the bank rather than laid into the water so there should be no problems for members walking their boards round it.
